Cubans only need a negative covid test to travel to Spain

Spain modified the requirements for travelers who wish to enter its territory. Starting this Saturday, Cubans will be able to travel to this country just by presenting a negative test for covid-19.

The Official Gazette of the State of Spain published an order from the Ministry of the Interior that relaxes the health requirements for entry to that country, for travelers from other countries, who from this Saturday will enter with the presentation of the vaccination certificate or the negative diagnosis to SARS -Cov2.

To date, Cubans who had received one of the two vaccines made on the island could not travel to Spain because the antidotes, Soberana and Abdalá, have not been recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO). Spain required the immunization certificate to enter its territory with accepted vaccines.

The types of tests that the European country will accept are PCR, carried out 72 hours before leaving for Spanish lands or one of antigens, carried out 24 hours before the trip.

Achieving a PCR or an antigen test on the Island is another viacrucis for national travelers, due to the long lines at the polyclinics

Another of the measures that Spain made more flexible is that, as of this Saturday, children under 12 years of age will be exempt from presenting any type of certificate. Likewise, passengers arriving by sea and air provided with an EU digital covid certificate or recognized as equivalent by the European Commission, will not have to complete the SPTH Health Control Form.

Achieving a PCR or an antigen test on the Island is another Way of the Cross for domestic travelers. Long queues at the polyclinics that manage these exams can jeopardize arriving at the airport on time. Although initially the service could be requested, free when it is done through the public health system, in any municipality, the long lines forced it to be restricted to the area of residence.

In the premises of the Siboney International Clinic located in Terminal 3 of the José Martí International Airport there is the possibility for tourists and Cubans to take the antigen test by paying with a Visa or Mastercard, which has not been issued by a United States bank. . Payment in cash or freely convertible currency (MLC) cards issued by Cuban banks is excluded.

Other places, such as the Cira García Clinic for international patients, offer the antigen test service paid with foreign cards or with MLC cards from Cuban banks. Unlike free tests, these results are delivered a few minutes after the sample is extracted, while in public polyclinics it can take up to 48 hours.
