Recently, the Minister of Health, Carla Vizzoti, confirmed that the country entered the fourth wave of coronaviruswhich is expected to have fewer hospitalizations and deaths than the third peak of the pandemic.
This, thanks to the fact that the national territory has a wide vaccination coverage against covid 19which would allow that, although the cases of coronavirus increased, patients are at less risk of complications.
However, it is still necessary for 50% of the population to receive the reinforcement of the vaccine against coronaviruswhich is why the authorities invite citizens to complete their schemes and receive the third and fourth doses.
According to the latest report from the Ministry of Health, in the last four weeks, contagions increased by 200%, this is due to the fact that the subvariant of Ómicron BA.2 circulates in the country.
This lineage has up to a 40% higher level of transmission than the original strain, which, added to the cold season, causes infections to spread rapidly throughout the territory.
As for the cases added between May 8 and 15, 33,989 infections were reported, that is, twice as many cases as in the first week, when 17,646 were registered.
Despite the fact that the cases continue to increase, the authorities estimate that hospitalizations, which until May 15 reached 41.2% for all pathologies, will remain low.
How to avoid infections during the fourth wave of the coronavirus
As has been done in the last two years, the authorities recommend reinforce the use of the chinstrap and hand washing, as well as maintain ventilated spaces to avoid the risk of contagion by covid 19.
In addition, the Government will reinforce the vaccination campaign so that citizens who have not been vaccinated do so, and those who have already completed their scheme receive the reinforcement.
