MIAMI, United States. – The European Union (EU) extended restrictions on non-essential travel from third countries, including Cuba.
The extension of the measure dates back to May 13, the date on which Order INT/424/2022, amending Order INT/657/2020, came to light.
In a previous revision of the normative text, it was pointed out that there could be a “possible next deletion in the framework of a more in-depth review of the Council Recommendation”.
The news was released last Monday by the Spanish Consulate in Havana. The diplomatic headquarters confirmed in Twitter that the restrictions would remain at least until June 15.
In this way, the European Union maintains the criteria for the application of the temporary restriction of non-essential travel from third countries to the European Union and associated Schengen countries. In this case, it is for reasons of public order and public health due to the health crisis caused by COVID-19.
Trips from Cuba
It should be noted that although the EU has been lifting prohibitions to the extent that the levels of transmission and mortality of the new coronavirus have been decreasing worldwide, temporary restrictions on non-essential travel remain.
For now, Cubans who wish to travel to European Union countries from the island can only do so for reasons of force majeure, and in no case for reasons of tourism or family visits.
In this sense, the Consulate of Spain in Havana warns on its website that only Cubans who qualify as cultural actors, linked to trade missions, academic trips, trade fairs and representatives of state and ministerial agencies, with the exception of MINREX.
