Undersecretary Monsalve responds to criticism from lonko Víctor Queipul for returning from the State of Exception: “No one can feel threatened”

The Undersecretary of the Interior, Manuel Monsalve, responded to the criticism made by the Temucuicui lonko, Víctor Queipul, for the return of the State of Exception in the southern part of the country.

In conversation with the newspaper Thirdthe Mapuche authority assured as a result of the State of Exception that “by taking the military to the streets, what Boric has done is declare war on the Mapuche.”

Those statements were answered this Thursday by Undersecretary Monsalve, who affirmed that Queipul’s statements “are completely untrue” because the police and Armed Forces that have been deployed carry out preventive, shelter and security tasks.

“No one can feel threatened when the role of the police and military forces is precisely to protect the safety of people (…), no one can feel threatened because the government wants to protect the safety of the citizens of Chile, I That statement seems completely out of place, it has no foundation, “he said.

Along the same lines, he added that “what I would expect, on the contrary, is that those who represent the Mapuche people, their different organizations and expressions, could accept the profound meaning of what President Gabriel Boric has proposed in his government. The government has said, has reiterated and will persist that a political response is required, that political response is being given in part by the Constitutional Convention because there were demands for plurinationality, autonomy, self-determination.”

Undersecretary Monsalve added that the Executive has raised a central element in the demand of the Mapuche people: advance in the purchase of land. Regarding this, he assured that it is a substantial difference with the previous government, “the previous government did not execute, did not spend, did not have the political will to occupy the resources available to the Conadi land and water fund to buy land. , this government has not only that will but also the willingness to allocate more resources”.
