Within the next few days, the socialist lawyer Ana Lya Uriarte will take office as the new chief of staff of the Minister of the Interior, Izkia Siches.
The decision seeks to strengthen the management of the former president of the Medical College, which has been marked by various mistakes, missteps and errors with ruling parties. Roberto Estay, who currently holds the position, will continue to be linked to the Secretary of State’s cabinet, as will the rest of the professional team.
According to La Tercera, it was the minister herself who pointed to the arrival of Michelle Bachelet’s former chief of staff for the position.
From La Moneda, they pointed out that with the arrival of Uriarte they hope that he will exploit his ties with the former New Majority and that Siches can be given greater support in this regard, who arrived at the Ministry of the Interior without the support of any political party.
In addition to Uriarte, this “restructuring” also involves the arrival of other specialist figures, such as Vanessa Azócar, who will take over as head of communications.
Thus, the doctor in Public Law Leslie Sánchez and the lawyer Bastián Espinoza, will work on the relationship between the Interior and Congress.
Lawyer Tomás Razazi (PS), a member of the Studies Division between 2014 and 2016, will return to dedicate himself to legal matters as advisor to Siches. On international issues, Elisa Araya will be in charge of migration and organized crime.
