The deputy of the National Assembly (AN) Julio Chávez, who chairs the Special Commission to Investigate Crimes against Venezuelan Migrants, indicated that 82 percent of the murders of Venezuelan migrants occur in Colombia, according to the collection of data about the situation of compatriots in different countries of the world.
“Colombia is the country that in the Latin American region registers the highest number of murders of Venezuelan migrants. 1,279 Venezuelans and 753 social leaders have been assassinated,” Chavez said during the program Al Aire, broadcast by Venezolana de Televisión.
In this sense, he pointed out that at least 3.7 million Venezuelans have migrated to Latin American countries, of which 1.78 million moved to Colombia; adding that these figures come from the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences of Colombia, the United Nations (UN) Agency for Refugees and other non-governmental organizations in the region.
The parliamentary commission presented this Tuesday before the AN the preliminary report of 83 pages that contains the migratory situation.
