Undocumented Haitians this morning confronted agents of the General Directorate of Migration with sticks, stones and bottles during an operation to detain illegal immigrants carried out in Ciudad Juan Bosch, in Santo Domingo Este.

The action caused them to be confronted with shots fired into the air and tear gas by agents of the General Directorate of Migration who came to the place.

Some of the immigrants were arrested and others fled through the mountains, adjacent to Ciudad Juan Bosch and along Ecological Avenue.

“It was a raid in search of undocumented immigrants and some who had no papers or documents resisted and confronted the Immigration agents,” one of the inspectors who refused to identify himself told El Nacional.

He said that it was a raid for purposes of purification and subsequent sending to Haiti of those who did not have documents, but that some resisted and confronted the immigration agents.

“It is not the first time that they receive us like this; It is something that is becoming customary among them,” said the inspector who gave details of the raid to El Nacional.

The confrontation with the Haitians caused alarm among the residents of Ciudad Juan Bosch, many of whom fled to their homes for fear of being hit by gunfire.

The incident occurred next to a children’s stay, at a time when some mothers were taking their children to go to work.

Ciudad Juan Bosch is one of the places with the most Haitians in the country, which has caused complaints from its residents.

Its residents complain that many even move illegally, using other people’s names to rent apartments.

Recently, a Haitian family was caught making an illegal move through the gate of the Sembrador IV residential complex.

Haitians living in Ciudad Juan Bosch are mostly undocumented.
