“We have a very good relationship with the government of President (Joe) Biden and we want everyone to be invited (to the IX Summit of the Americas). That is the position of Mexico (…) if there is exclusion, if not everyone is invited, there will be a representation of the Mexican government, but I would not go,” said Mexican President López Obrador.
The government of the president of Chile, Gabriel Boric, is taking steps to enable the participation of Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela in the IX Summit of the Americas, to be held from June 6 to 10 in the US city of Los Angeles, said the Chilean foreign minister , Antonia Urrejola, days after the US announced that countries that do not respect democracy due to their actions will not receive invitations to the meeting. In statements to the Chilean newspaper La Tercera, Urrejola stated: “The recipe must be changed: the region needs to dialogue beyond its differences.”
On the other hand, in a joint decision, the countries of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) affirmed that they will not attend the Summit if any nation from that area is excluded. As Chile joins Mexico and Bolivia, in addition to the numerically important CARICOM bloc, I see Argentina doing the same.

The success or failure of the Summit of the Americas does not depend on the Nicaraguan opposition. The political error of the Nicaraguans was not to measure the political influence of Mexico, nor the correlation of forces at the Latin American level and to adopt the US position uncritically. In this case, given the almost certain failure of the Summit, it is best to dismantle the Nicaraguan tour to Los Angeles, in order to reduce the political costs of an announced failure. If the US gives in to this reality, the Summit will be a victory for Ortega, Maduro and Díaz Canel. The IX Summit of the Americas has died before being born.
Many of the Nicaraguan opponents who went to Los Angeles each went their own way, giving yet another sign of disunity. The different Nicaraguan opposition expressions continue without a strategy, they only apply circumstantial tactics that are transformed into a wrong strategy.
