Senator Juan Castro (IND – RN) proposed a mixed commission of five deputies and five senators elected by Congress, who “will proceed to convene a constitutional commission of experts, which must be made up of academics of recognized prestige in the field of legal sciences and political sciences, so that, within a period of six months counted from its installation, they prepare a project for a new Constitution”.
Said commission, stated Senator Castro, according to TVNmust be composed of two “outstanding academics in the field of legal sciences or political sciences, for each of the universities that make up the Council of Rectors, and one outstanding academic in the same fields for each of the universities not members of the Council of Rectors who are accredited for at least five years in all areas”.
According to Castro, those who have been conventional constituents will not be able to form the “constitutional commission”.
“We have worked together with a series of expert lawyers in constitutional law and talked with different political parties from all sectors in order to have a clear alternative for citizens in the event that the Rejection option is imposed on September 4,” he added. the legislator close to RN.
Senator Castro pointed out that his project seeks to make it clear to citizens that the constitutional process “is not closed” and affirmed that “they can vote calmly in case they are not satisfied with the proposal that the Constitutional Convention gives us.”
Subsequently, the parliamentarian explained that his proposal also contemplates the drafting of a Magna Carta “with specialists, academics, with people who have sufficient skills to draft a good Constitution.”
“Because we know that, today, the current constituents are doing pure ‘chambonadas’ and we want this country to do well,” he lashed out.
Senator Castro’s announcement would take place next Tuesday when he officially presents the project. He concluded that, if he is not accompanied by leftist senators, he would just as well present it alone.
