A precautionary measure of preventive detention in conjunction with the imputation of charges, for aggravated intentional homicide, was decreed to Marichely Ruiz, on the afternoon of this Friday, May 13, during the guarantees hearing held in the Accusatory Penal System (SPA).
According to the Public Ministry, this precautionary measure is given based on the evidence presented by the Homicide and Femicide section of the Metropolitan Prosecutor’s Office of the guarantees hearing.
The process against Ruiz began last Wednesday when he turned himself in to justice and confessed to having murdered Yaris Jiménez, his sentimental partner, both of whom had been reported missing.
“The accusation was made for crimes against life and personal integrity, a crime of aggravated intentional homicide, which has a penalty of 20 to 30 years and the accusation was made against this lady, the apprehension was legalized and after evaluating the elements that are within the investigation, the judge considered that all procedural risks were admitted,” said prosecutor Yiriel Medina.
Meanwhile, the relatives of Yaris Jiménez, who went to the SPA, asked the authorities for justice to be done and not only to prosecute Arruiz but also to see the accomplices who helped her get rid of the body.
“We deserve justice and to be treated with respect and to assert the rights we have. We ask for justice and for the Public Ministry to do its job because we feel that there are more people involved and not only Marichely should be in there facing justice, but everyone who was involved,” said Katherine Fernández, a cousin of the late Yaris Jiménez.
