The former Secretary of the Presidency was suspended from his post after irregularities were detected during his missions abroad.
Former Secretary of the Presidency Miguel Ángel Toma resigned from his position as second-round government prosecutor, reported this Thursday Underlined.
Said medium agreed to a resolution of the Ministry of Education and Culture (MEC) of March 2022 that confirms that the official who was part of the technical-administrative body in charge of legally advising the Public Administration presented the resignation of his position.
As a government prosecutor, Toma was sanctioned with an administrative summary and was suspended from the exercise of his position for six months, with total loss of assets.
An investigation carried out by the National Civil Service Office concluded that the former presidential secretary had several irregularities during his mission trips abroad on behalf of Uruguay, when he traveled five times in the company of the accountant Guiliana Pérez, who had been hired in March 2019 for the Anti-Money Laundering Secretariat.
In September 2020, President Luis Lacalle Pou ordered the start of the administrative investigation, after images of Toma were released in a soccer match in Rome (Italy) with Pérez.
According to the investigation carried out by the Civil Service Office, Toma was unable to justify why Pérez traveled in delegations sent to Italy for official missions.
