Ministry of Women carries out an operation to reduce gender violence

Yesterday the Ministry of Women carried out a program of house-to-house visits to residents of various sectors of the Santo Domingo province and the National District, with the purpose of making them aware of the importance of reporting cases of gender violence on time.

The “Door to Door. Living without Violence is Possible ”, which began on November 1 in the Montecristi province and will be executed at the national level, was created to reduce cases of domestic violence, in the interest of not giving up the action or underestimating the aggressor.

Yesterday, the tour in the Santo Domingo Norte municipality was led by the Deputy Minister of Intrafamily Violence of the Ministry of Women, Daris Sánchez, who stated that gender violence is an issue that worries the general public and that it directly affects to the family involved in the case.

“We are going to touch the Dominican homes and we are going to tell them that the Ministry of Women exists, that the Ministry has legal services for violated women, that the Ministry of Women has psychological services for women and for the family in general” , he pointed out.

He added that they will also go house to house to inform that through the line * 212, emergency assistance, rescue actions are implemented for women, children and adolescents, victims of any type of violence.

“We are also carrying out this day to inform families that there is a national emergency line called 212 and that it is available 24 hours a day so that any violent woman has a place to turn in case of violence,” he stressed.

In addition, he argued that they are providing assistance to families who are victims of gender violence through 12 shelters installed nationwide, which consist of temporary shelters to protect the lives of women, along with their daughters and minor children who are at risk. of violence.

The governor of the Santo Domingo province, Julia Drullard, also participated in the day, thanking President Luis Abinader for the action of the Ministry of Women with operations like this that she described as super beneficial.

“What the President of the Republic seeks is to improve the quality of life of each Dominican and in that direction, through the Ministry of Women, he is investing all the necessary resources so that with this type of campaign we can reduce violence to its minimum expression” , he emphasized.

During the operation, the agents of “Jornada Puerta a Puerta. Living without Violence is Possible ”, they have some forms available that through them report the cases of violence that are communicated during the visit. The forms should be handled with due confidentiality and given to the staff of the provincial office of the Ministry of Women.
