Russian attack on a school in Luhansk leaves 60 dead, denounces Zelensky

The increase in Russian attacks on Ukraine on the outskirts of kyiv has been deplored by the NGO Amnesty International, which asserted that they were war crimes. Next Sunday, May 18, the G7 leaders will hold a videoconference to address the Ukrainian conflict

“We are defending the free world, we are defending not only Ukraine. Now our politicians are trying to negotiate with these animals. We can’t talk to these people. Our goal is to eliminate the threat,” Azov Battalion Deputy Commander Svyatoslav Kalina Palamar told an online press conference from the besieged Azovstal steel mill in southeastern Ukraine.

In this sense, Palamar objected to the sanctions of the international community against Moscow, assuring that the sanctions are not effective and the military aid is not enough. “I don’t know much about economic aid, I work in the army, my job is to eliminate threats. We need weapons, ammunition, more training, more logistical help,” he said.

“We are aware that we can die at any moment, we are trying to live with honor. Our contacts with the outside world may always be the last. We are surrounded, we cannot leave, in any direction. We have given up self-defense priorities. Let’s not waste our efforts because we are defending the free world at a very high price », he emphasized.

Next Sunday, May 18, the G7 leaders will hold a videoconference to address the Ukrainian conflict. Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenszky will participate in the meeting, the German government announced.

According to Berlin government spokeswoman Christiane Hoffman, Chancellor Olaf Scholz “will hold the third video conference since the beginning of the year with the G7 partners.” He said that this date marks the end of the second world war in Europe.

The videoconference “will cover current issues, in particular the situation in Ukraine. Ukrainian President Zelensky will participate and report on the current situation in the country,” the spokeswoman added.

Russia acts like the Nazis

Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky assured this Sunday, May 8, that Russia is fanatically imitating the Nazi regime, maniacally reproducing its details. In a video posted on Telegram on the occasion of Remembrance and Reconciliation Day, Zelensky said that during the two years of occupation, the Nazis killed 10,000 civilians.

“In two months of occupation, Russia killed 20,000 people in Ukraine. In the Ukraine a bloody reconstruction of Nazism was organized. A fanatical repetition of this regime: of its ideas, actions, words and symbols. A manic and detailed reproduction of his atrocities and an ‘alibi’ that supposedly gives him an evil sacred purpose, “he stated.

It is, said Zelensky, a repetition of his crimes and even attempts to defeat the “master” and lower him from the pedestal of the greatest evil in human history. “This sets a new world record for xenophobia, hate, racism and the number of victims they can cause,” Zelensky said.

bombed school

60 people are missing after a school where they were sheltering was bombed on Saturday, May 7, in the Lugansk region of eastern Ukraine, regional governor Sergei Gaidai said on Sunday.

Zelenki said on Sunday that 60 people were killed in the attack. He said so in a video conference he held with members of the G7, AFP quoted. UN Secretary General António Gutérres said he was “horrified.”

Gaidai detailed that the Russian forces bombed the town of Bilogorivka. About 90 people were sheltering in the educational center, which caused a fire that engulfed the building, he explained.

The school “was completely destroyed,” the governor said on his Telegram account. “There were 90 people in total. 27 were saved », he added. “Most likely 60 people who were at the school have died.”

The official also said that emergency services were unable to work overnight due to the attacks and rescue operations continue on Sunday.

US First Lady in Ukraine

The first lady of the United States, Jill Biden, arrived in Ukraine on Sunday, where she met the wife of President Volodimir Zelensky, Olena Zelenska, in a show of solidarity that coincided with the celebration of Mother’s Day in the Slavic country.

“I wanted to come on Mother’s Day. I thought it was important to show the Ukrainian people that this war has to end and that it has been brutal, and that the people of the United States stand with the people of Ukraine,” Biden told reporters.

Jill Biden met the Ukrainian first lady at a school in Uzhhorod, a city of 100,000 inhabitants a few kilometers from the border with Slovakia.

Olena Zelenska, wife of the country’s president, Volodymyr Zelensky, has not been seen in public for security reasons since the beginning of the Russian invasion on February 24.

EU no deal

The countries of the European Union did not reach an agreement on Sunday to ban oil imports from Russia in response to the war in Ukraine, due to the difficulties posed for some partners by their dependence on Moscow crude.

The meeting of the ambassadors began at approximately noon. It lasted for an hour and a half, without the European capitals managing to unblock the reserves of countries such as Hungary, Slovakia or the Czech Republic.

The oil embargo continues to be the main difficulty in carrying out the bloc’s sixth package of retaliation against the Kremlin, despite the fact that the European Commission’s original proposal contemplates a generic withdrawal period that runs until the end of the year and gives one year more to Hungary and Slovakia for their dependence on imports of Russian crude by pipeline.
