Without stopping work, Palmira port union adheres against the dismissal of 150 workers

At the end of the month, 150 workers from the Montecon company (Montevideo) would be fired due to the difficult situation that they are going through “as a result of the government’s agreement with the TCP company in the port of the capital.”

Faced with these facts, the assembly of workers of the Supra (Single Port Union and Related Branches) decided not to stop the port work in Nueva Palmira in order to “not harm the truckers (due to the large harvest) silo plants, farmers and all the people who may be affected by any measure in the port sector”, although they are “100% committed to defending jobs”.

The government regarding the agreement with TCP had “had said at all times that it was not going to see a loss of employment. They were going to see hundreds of new jobs. Today reality says that 150 port workers are left without work”, indicates Supra.
