Another cache of 199 packets of cocaine was seized aboard a boat in the vicinity of Saona Island, La Altagracia province, during a joint operation by the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD), the Dominican Republic Navy and the Armed Forces. A report from the DNCD indicates that the occupants of the 23-foot-long boat, equipped with two 75-horsepower engines each, managed to escape, but the agency indicates that anti-drug and military agents are combing a large area of the place in search of drug traffickers and that they could be captured at any time.
The boat that arrived on the coast of La Altagracia province from South America with the 199 packages of cocaine, was sighted by DNCD agents, members of the Dominican Navy and Air Force, in the area known as Mano Juan and When the occupants were discovered, they left for Saona Island, managing to flee through some mangroves.

The authorities said they had reports that at least four subjects were on board the boat when they tried to reach land with the drug shipment, their intentions being frustrated by members of the DNCD, the Dominican Navy, the Air Force and representatives of the Public Ministry.
“We are combing a large area in the vicinity of Saona Island in search of the occupants of the boat that arrived from South America and we have names of them, so we hope to capture them at any time,” said DNCD officials participating in the operational.
The DNCD and the Dominican Navy, with the support of security agencies and the Public Ministry, have been seizing large shipments of cocaine in operations in the eastern and southern parts of the country, as well as in the Caucedo multimodal port and air terminals.
According to reports, at least 27 people, Dominicans, Colombians, Venezuelans and other nationalities, are in prison, complying with coercive measures established by courts of the jurisdictions of La Romana, HigueySan Pedro de Macorís, Hato Mayor, Bani, Azua, Barahona and Pedernales.
The DNCD has said that both in the eastern and southern zones, strong structures of Dominican drug traffickers operate with foreigners, to whom in recent months it has dealt resounding blows with the seizure of large shipments of cocaine, firearms, communication devices, boats and fast boats, money and other instruments.
Both the president of the DNCD, Vice Admiral José Manuel Cabrera Ulloa, and the Commander General of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ramón Gustavo Betances Hernández, have expressed with the strong support of the Public Ministry and the Dominican Air Force, they will not give up the groups that try to use the country as a bridge to transport drugs to other destinations.
