The Spanish Under-20 National Team will meet today its rivals in the group stage of the World Cup in Costa Rica, which will be played from August 10 to 28 in the Central American country. The draw will start at 21:00 (Spanish time) and will feature two special guests: international soccer players Sherly Cruz and Paulo César Wanchope. It will be the first post-pandemic World Cup to be played.
The National Theater of San José, the Costa Rican capital, will be the scene of the draw in which the 16 participating teams will know the roadmap to try to conquer the World Cup title defended by Japan. The Japanese beat Spain in the last World Cup played in France in 2018. La Rojita starts in pot two, along with powers such as the United States or Nigeria. However, as two teams from the same confederation could not meet in the group stage, only Japan or Costa Rica from the first pot could play, avoiding two of the bogeymen: Germany and France. Brazil, Canada or Australia are other of the most complicated rivals of the rest of the drums that can fall to those of Pedro López. The top two in each group will advance to the quarterfinals.
