Berlin. Germany yesterday reported a day without deaths from covid-19 for the first time since September 2020, according to figures released by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI).
The infectious disease watchdog reported no new deaths from or related to covid-19 pulmonary and vascular disease for the first time since September 21, 2020.
However, it is possible that there will be changes or updates later, since the health authorities usually record lower mortality figures during the weekends.
German authorities notified the RKI of 4,032 new coronavirus infections in the last 24-hour period. However, the week before, the number of cases was 20,084.
Germany has counted 24,813,817 confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infections and 135,461 deaths since the start of the pandemic, but the true numbers are likely to be higher as many cases have gone undetected.
The incidence of infections in seven days per 100,000 inhabitants maintains its downward course in the country. The RKI reported that the figure was 639.5 cases, compared to 790.8 the previous week and 1,531.5 a month ago.
Meanwhile, the Covid-19 outbreak that saw authorities lock down virtually everyone in Shanghai appears to be on the decline, with the number of new cases falling below 10,000 a day over the weekend.
Authorities have begun limited easing of a city lockdown that has upended the lives of millions of residents and hit China’s economy. Many have been confined to their homes for three weeks or more.
Denmark will dispose of more than 1 million vaccines against anticovid that are about to expire, since they failed in their attempt to donate them to developing countries.
The pandemic has resulted in 514 million 3 thousand 353 confirmed cases and 6 million 237 thousand 670 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University.
