In the first three months of this year, Peru received 242,000 foreign touristswhich represented an increase of 689.3% compared to the same period in 2021, reported the Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), Robert Sanchez.
It indicated that the main issuing countries were the United States (32.6%), Chile (10.3%), Colombia (7.6%), Spain (6.1%), Ecuador (5.8%), Argentina (4.6%), Brazil (3.6%), Mexico (3.3%), France (2.9%), Germany (2.7%), Canada (2.4%) and Italy (2.3%). These countries accounted for 84.2% of the total number of tourist arrivals in the country.
Sánchez also mentioned that during the first quarter the flow of internal tourism trips reached 5.3 million (96.1% more than the same period in 2021).
In addition, it was known that the average cost of local tourists was S/ 594 and they had an average stay of six nights during each visit.

During the first quarter of the year, the general movement of passengers at airports throughout Peru totaled 6.8 million, an increase of 126% compared to the same period in 2021.
Domestic flights represented 77.5% (106.6% compared to 2021) and international flights reached 22.5% (234.7% more compared to 2021).
“We are working to forge the image of Peru as a world destination and thus generate more income for our fellow citizens. In addition, we are seeking to improve tourism competitiveness and encouraging, in tour operators throughout the country, compliance with biosafety protocols.”, affirmed the head of the Mincetur.
He added that the Government is committed to supporting all regions to promote tourism, strengthen the work of our artisans and promote innovative tourism businesses and regional gastronomy.
“We hope that by the end of 2022 the contribution of tourism to the national GDP can reach 2.5% and that employment in the tourism sector exceeds 900,000 jobs, with a growth of 8% compared to 2021″ Sanchez said.
