National Geographic magazine selected the essential destinations to visit in 2022 and Yasuní is on its list.
Ecuador is definitely a paradise and the magazine National Geographic confirmed it once more by choosing the Yasuní (Amazon) as one of the 25 essential places the world to meet in 2022.
The list consists of five categories: nature, adventure, culture, family and sustainability, in the latter is located the Yasuni National Park, the largest protected area in continental Ecuador, where the peoples «Tagaeri and Taromenane, Waorani indigenous groups living in voluntary isolation and using artisanal canoes to travel between waterways.
Yasuní’s review highlights: «Considered one of the most biodiverse places on Earth, it is home to an astonishing variety of creatures, such as anteaters, capybaras, sloths, spider monkeys and around 600 species of colorful birds. In the rivers Napo and Curaray that flank the park, visitors can observe the Amazon River dolphin, an enigmatic and endangered species.
More destinations to enjoy
To the Yasuni, in the sustainability category there are also: Ruhr Valley, Germany; Łódź, Poland; Columbia Gorge National Scenic Area, Oregon / Washington; and Chimanimani National Park, Mozambique.
In the adventure category is Costa Rica with the El Camino hiking route, which has 16 stages and passes through remote towns and cities, indigenous lands and protected natural areas, as reported by National Geographic. (JG)
