Confederations of Workers demand social security, decent pensions and unemployment

Confederaciones de Trabajadores demandan seguridad social, pensiones dignas y cesantía

SANTO DOMINGO.- Different confederations of workers commemorated Labor Day with a demonstration in the Mauricio Báez Park, where they demanded comprehensive social security for workers, decent pensions, salary improvement and the right to severance pay.

With banners in hand and braving the rain, the workers expressed what they consider to be the challenges to be overcome in the country.

They cited among these the high cost of living, and called on the Government to pay attention to this issue.

The president of the National Confederation of Trade Union Unity (CNUS), Rafael (Pepe) Abreu, stated that the Minister of Labor informed them that from the Government there is no proposal that threatens the job layoff, which he considers to be a sign of peace and respect.

Pepe Abreu also expressed that this first of May finds the working class with a great challenge, there is a world food crisis, which places food production at 20% “.

In this sense, he called for the cessation of the confrontation between Russia and Ukraine.

Participating organizations include the National Confederation of Dominican Workers, the National Confederation of Trade Union Unity, and the Classist Autonomous Trade Union Confederation (CASC).
