Javier Yap considers that the conflict of interest law that fights corruption could be a legacy of Cortizo

Javier Yap Endara, a member of the “Vamos” coalition, referred this Friday on Radio Panama, to the approval in the third debate of Law 329 that regulates situations of conflict of interest in the public function, and is waiting to be sanctioned by President Laurentino Cortizo.

“The good thing is that the president on the campaign trail said that he has committed himself to promoting a law of this type and to date he has not approved any anti-corruption law, so he has a golden opportunity, he will have on his table very soon, a bill that fights corruption, and hopefully this will be part of his legacy, it is a law that favors the country and that it makes the right decision,” he specified.

He added that the obligation to comply with this law comes mainly from high-level officials and to present this information on an annual basis.

“This is being created under Antai and it will have the power to initiate official investigations as a result of complaints, so the tools that this office will have are extensive and will allow them to monitor and ensure that this is carried out,” he explained. Yap.

It should be noted that if President Cortizo approves Bill 329, which seeks to avoid conflicts of interest in the public sector, high-profile officials from the three powers of the State will be required to submit an affidavit of particular interests each year. .

There they will have to report professional, financial, labor, economic, union, personal or charitable activities, whether or not they are paid. They must also inform if they have had contracts with the State, if they have received gifts in the last calendar year before taking office, that they come from people or companies that are not linked to their families, and if they have shares in companies, foundations, trusts , established both in Panama and abroad, among others.

This proposal was promoted by deputy Gabriel Silva, with the support of his colleagues from the independent caucus.
