MADRID, Spain.- US Senator from the state of Florida Rick Scott sent a letter to President Joe Biden requesting that Cuba be excluded from the Summit of the Americas.
According to the Spanish news agency EFEScott pointed out that it is of “vital importance” that the meeting “does not legitimize the tyrants in Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua.”
The United States “must prohibit” the representatives of these illegitimate regimes from attending the Summit: Miguel Díaz-Canel, Nicolás Maduro and Daniel Ortega, “dictators who starve their own people, imprison political dissidents and repress peaceful protests Scott highlighted.
“To welcome these evil and illegitimate leaders would be to undermine the movements for freedom and democracy in these nations,” he said.
This Tuesday, Rick Scott insisted through Twitter that “the illegitimate Cuban communist regime has no right to attend the Summit of the Americas,” which will take place next June in the city of Los Angeles.
“These dictators can cry all they want, but we will not stop fighting for democracy and to end their regimes,” the senator added.
The illegitimate Cuban communist regime has no right to attend the Summit of the Americas. That’s why I urged @POTUS to veto Díaz-Canel and his thugs.

Last Monday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, said at a press conference that the United States was trying to exclude Cuba from the IX Summit of the Americas.
“The United States resorts once again to all kinds of resources and lies to assert the right won by Cuba and its people to be present at these Summits on equal terms with the rest of the countries in the region,” said Rodríguez Parrilla.
However, a spokesman for the National Security Council of the United States assured that “no invitations had yet been issued from the White House.”
