On the afternoon of this Monday, April 25, the President of the Republic Laurentino Cortizo sanctioned Law No. 162 that encourages electric mobility in land transport and was promoted by the independent deputy Edison Broce.
The president assured that the Electric Mobility Law “which we sanctioned today is another important step that the country takes towards the progressive energy transition of land transport, from cars with internal combustion engines to vehicles powered by electricity.”
He stressed that this new Law is in line with the government’s energy strategy of migrating towards less polluting energy sources, “with proposals for changing technology in various areas of production, as a route towards a more modern, cleaner and in harmony with the environment.
When the bill was approved by the Assembly, Broce stated that “Panama has to be a leader in the fight against climate change in the region and this is an opportunity to help economic reactivation. That is why this law comes with financial incentives and a focus on the development of the new industry”.
