The Attorney General’s Office will open a preliminary inquiry against General Eduardo Zapateiro, commander of the National Army, to determine whether or not there was a possible involvement in politics.
The information is known days after the General Zapateiro will reply, through his Twitter account, to the presidential candidate of the Historical Pact, Gustav Petro, who stated that there were generals who had ties to the criminal gang, ‘Clan del Golfo’.

As revealed by the newspaper El Tiempo, this Monday, April 25, the Attorney General’s Office will announce decisions on this case.

The General Zapateiro’s response was immediate and told him: “There is no one who is more hurt by the death of a soldier than those of us who wear camouflage and, of course, their families and the country itself, but his supreme sacrifice for the country should not be used in political campaign narratives”.

The high official also assured in another message that Petro took advantage of these situations for political benefit. “To no general I have seen on television receiving ill-gotten money. Colombians have seen you receive money in a garbage bag,” concluded Zapateiro.
