During the early hours of this Wednesday, four arson and armed attacks were recorded in the southern zone, specifically between the regions of La Araucanía and Biobío. According to preliminary information, the events left cabins, private vehicles and forest machinery destroyed.
According to information from Carabineros to emmolfive cabins and two vehicles were destroyed in an arson attack carried out by a group of unknown persons on route 181, which connects the communes of Victoria with Curacautín.
Around 01:00 in the morning, Carabineros from the 4th Victoria Police Station received a call from a person who reported the presence of five hooded individuals who arrived at his home on Route 181 at kilometer 13 of the sector.
The victim stated that at the scene, the individuals would have threatened him with long weapons, and then proceeded to set fire with “some type of accelerant” five cabins that were uninhabited and two vehicles, where one of them was completely destroyed and a truck whose cab was set on fire.
Carabineros confirmed the fact, so the 4th Police Station and the Public Order Control Police Station went to the scene, where they verified that the unknown persons fled in an unknown direction. The proceedings were left to Labocar and OS-9.
In parallel to this, in the province of Arauco, Biobío region, two other attacks were recorded. The first of them in the commune of Curanilahue, where at least three trucks were destroyed by fire, while in Tirúa, a Carabineros checkpoint was attacked by shots coming from a moving truck.
In Curanilahue, at least two trucks and a sentry box were destroyed as a result of the arson attack. According to preliminary reports, the incident took place in the Cancha Los Topos sector. In addition, in the same commune, a second attack against a crane truck was recorded in the vicinity of the Tacna property.
In Tirúa, a group of unknown individuals, traveling in two vans, attacked the Quidico Police checkpoint with automatic weapons. At the moment, there have been no reports of people injured as a result of the event, in any case, the Biobío Regional Government condemned the events.
“We strongly reject the armed attack against the Carabineros de Quidico checkpoint in Tirúa, and the burning of two trucks and a sentry box in Curanilahue. As the Regional Government of Biobío, we will not cease our call to guarantee security for all people in the province of Arauco”, they concluded via Twitter.

It should be noted that the events took place after the conviction against Emilio Berkhoff was known for arson attack and robbery with violence in Lumaco, whose events took place in 2020 and where the Prosecutor’s Office asks for 7 years in prison.
