Councilor Willie Bermúdez: ‘I am not in favor of paid leave’

He stated that the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ) is putting a brake on a practice that until now was legal, but was not fair to the citizenry, who are increasingly asking for more transparency of public money.

Don Bosco’s representative, Guillermo “Willie” Bermúdez, spoke on Radio Panama on Tuesday about paid leave, stating that he is not in favor of such leave.

“I am not in favor of paid leave. Collecting two salaries, I have always said and as a representative, I think it is not a correct practice; it was legal, but not morally,” he said.

He stated that the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ) is putting a brake on a practice that until now was legal, but was not fair to the citizenry, who are increasingly asking for more transparency of public money.

Bermúdez expressed that understanding the situation in which many people in this country find themselves today, even more so after the pandemic, you cannot be charged as an elected and additional position because you were elected and worked in the Government.
