Madrid Spain.- Prisoners Defenders denounced to the United Nations (UN) the violation of children’s rights in Cuba.

according to a report published this Monday On its website, the organization registered two types of violations in this regard: 1) the criminal prosecution of children between the ages of 13 and 17 for reasons of conscience and 2) the forced separation of children from their parents, professionals, for 8 years.

Regarding the first case, Prisoners Defender presented 36 examples of minors included in its ready of political prisoners.

“Of 36 minors prosecuted within the framework of the demonstrations of July 11, 2021, 22 are the cases that we analyze under detailed complaint. 14 additional cases are briefly listed and identified by the time for the preparation of this complaint, given the 7-day notice for it. However, the cases of the 14 alleged minors prosecuted and under various deprivations of liberty are very similar to those studied in depth. The ages range from 13 years to 17 years, “says the document.

The second violation denounced by PD is related to the sanctions applied to workers who do not complete their “missions” abroad, and to whom the 8-year Law is applied, decreeing that they are “deserters” and “traitors to the country.” .

Prisoner Defenders presented more than 1,111 testimonies from Cuban professionals who have suffered this forced expatriation/rejection for 8 years; of which 48% had minor children while working abroad, representing more than 5,000 children currently separated from their parents.

To prove their claims, PD delivered to the UN Consular Certificates of international legal validity issued by the Government of Cuba that confirm them, where the so-called 8-year Law is explained; as well as agreements, contracts and other documents.

These separations are “generating a river of emotional, mental and physical illnesses. A true pandemic on children generated by the repression of the Cuban regime to punish parents and intimidate more than 50,000 civil work professionals abroad from whom the regime extracts from 80% to 95% of the salary with the that multinational companies involved and governments pay for their services”, denounced Prisoners Defenders.
