Thousands of cariocas continue to leave the city on holiday, heading to the Lakes Region and north of the state this Saturday (13th), despite the forecast of little sun and cloudy weather. As a result, vehicle traffic is slow along most of the Rio-Niterói Bridge towards Niterói. The crossing time, around 15:45, was 35 minutes, when the normal is 13 minutes.
The Ecoponte concessionaire forecasts that 841,000 vehicles will pass the bridge during the Proclamation of the Republic holiday until next Tuesday (16), when many leave to return to Rio. On Monday and Tuesday, 152,000 vehicles are expected on the move back.
According to Ecoponte, an important measure before continuing the trip is to check the vehicle’s condition, such as a general overhaul of the engine (water, oil, fuel). The concessionaire emphasizes that most calls on the highway are related to breakdowns, occurrences that can be avoided with a prior review of the vehicle’s condition.
Because of the high gasoline prices, there has been an increase in cases of dry failure, when there is no fuel in the tank, which, in addition to being dangerous, leads to a fine of R$ 130.16 and loss of four points on the driver’s license.
