Monterey, NL. The governor of Texas, Gregory W. Abbott, commented that the review measures at the border ports of Texas with the states of Nuevo León, Chihuahua, Coahuila and Tamaulipas; but that if there is an increase in undocumented immigrants at the border, he will not hesitate to bring back the inspections.
The newspaper The Dallas Morning News published that Governor Greg Abbott, accompanied by the president of Tamaulipas, Francisco García Cabeza de Vaca, said in a press conference: “If we see an increase in traffic (of migrants) across the border, we will strategically close certain bridges. This measure will cause financial pain but it is necessary for the leaders of Mexico and the White House to solve the problem”, he emphasized.
He considered that the “financial pain” is necessary for the public to insist that their government leaders, as well as the presidents of the countries involved, take the necessary measures to solve the problem.
The governments of Nuevo León, Chihuahua, Coahuila and Tamaulipas must guarantee security to stop the illegal migration. His government stationed along the Texas border with these entities, about 10,000 National Guard soldiers.
As you may remember, the Governor of Texas announced on April 6 that all commercial traffic from Mexico to Texas, after passing the federal inspection carried out by the Customs and Border Protection Office (CBP), in the ports of entry, and there would be one more inspection by Texas officials.
The governor of texas argued that this measure was taken after President Joe Biden reported that as of next May the Title 42which allows the immediate expulsion of undocumented immigrants, to avoid contagion by Covid-19.
The CBP considered that cargo transportation delays were 12 hours on average, however, Mexican carriers placed blockades on the Pharr-Reynosa bridge for having remained between two and three days without moving, and the National Industry Council Maquiladora and Export Manufacturer (Index), calculated losses on that bridge of 112.9 million dollars in a single day.
Between Texas and the four Mexican states there are 27 ports of entry to the United States.
