Uruguayan Alexander “Cacique” Medina left Internacional’s technical command early this Friday afternoon (15), less than 24 hours after Colorado’s 1-1 draw at home with Guaireña (Paraguay), for the second round of the Copa Sudamericana. According to an official note, assistant coach Cauan de Almeida takes over as interim from this Saturday (16).

Cacique Medina was hired by Colorado in December, after a successful campaign in Talleres (Argentina) last year. At the hermano club, he was runner-up in the Argentine Cup – he lost the final to Boca Juniors, on penalties – and took third place in the national championship.
However, ahead of Colorado Cacique Medina did not repeat the good performance and added frustrations. In the opening of the Copa do Brasil, Colorado was eliminated by losing 2-0 to Globo FC-RN (which disputes the Série D of the Brazilian Championship). Twenty days later, Inter fell in the semifinals of Gauchão, after losing to rivals Grêmio by 3-1 (aggregate score) in the semifinals. In early April, he debuted away from home in the Sudamericana, with a 2-2 draw with the Ecuadorian club 9 de Outubro, for Group E. Then, he lost in the first round of the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, by 2-0. for Atlético-MG, in Belo Horizonte. Finally, he was defeated this Thursday, playing at the Beira-Rio stadium, in Porto Alegre.
In an official note, in addition to the coach’s dismissal, Colorado also announced the dismissal of assistants Fernando Machado and Jadson Vieira; physical trainers Alexis Olariaga and Richard González; and performance analyst Mariano Levisman.
