Accompanied by dozens of adherents, Professor Kemy Oyarzún officially registered her candidacy for Rector of the University of Chile.
Her candidacy acquires special relevance, given that until now only men have held this strategic position, while on this occasion there are two candidates with serious aspirations: the official Rosa Devés, – current Academic Vice-Chancellor – and Kemy Oyarzún, who among her scrolls has co-founded the Center for Gender Studies at the University of Chile, in addition to creating the Master’s Degree in Gender and Culture Studies and the Interdisciplinary Doctorate in Gender Studies.

During her speech, the academic reinforced the idea of her campaign motto: “A new University for a new Chile”, emphasizing the need to integrate the different units of the University around a collective project that represents the different areas of knowledge and that contain an inclusive, participatory and democratic country view, claiming to be capable of carrying out these transformations given her experience as a University Senator and President of the Association of Academics.
The elections will take place on May 12, and will decide who holds office during the 2022-2026 period. There will be a second round scheduled for the 31st of this month in the event that no candidate reaches an absolute majority.
