The Good Friday in Rio de Janeiro has a ceremony at the Metropolitan Cathedral in the city center with the solemn liturgy of the Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ, followed by a procession to Arcos da Lapa, where the Auto da Paixão de Cristo begins to 18:30.
On Hallelujah Saturday, the Pascal Vigil will be held at the São José Seminary, in Rio Comprido, with the Office of Readings at 9 am; and in the Metropolitan Cathedral there will be the Solemn Easter Vigil, at 18:00. The celebration of the vigil will begin outside the cathedral, with the Blessing of Fire, from which a flame will be taken from which the Archbishop of Rio, Cardinal Orani João Tempesta will light the Pascal Círio (1 meter candle), which symbolizes Risen Christ. The vigil then proceeds to the interior of the temple, with the singing of the announcement of the Resurrection and the Solemn Mass.
On Easter Sunday, the Mass of the Resurrection of Jesus will be celebrated in the Metropolitan Cathedral at 10 am.
