The Cerro Porteno Paraguayan won this Tuesday in Asunción by 3-1 Colon Argentina and provisionally took the leadership of Group G of the Libertadores Cupwhose second day was later completed by Peñarol and Olimpia.
For the Ciclón Asunceno, the youth Fernando Romero scored a double, in minutes 40 and 46, and Alberto Espínola, in 70. Eric Meza scored in the 30th minute for Colón de Santa Fe.
Although he was not in the initial pools, Romero stood up for the defense of the Cyclone, in an intense round-trip match. The 21-year-old striker sat down with a double, when it was feared that the absence of several players would make a dent in the Barça attack.
The local team went to the field of the ‘New Pot’ without the Bolivian striker Marcelo Moreno Martins, due to the death of his father, and the locals Robert Morales and Alfio Oviedo, out due to injury.
The first half passed with divided options, although Cerro made a couple of options that he could not convert, one of them at minute 17, when Rafael Delgado providentially deflected a ball that was advancing towards the red and black frame. The advantage that Meza achieved in the first half did not discourage the locals, who went from less to more with an animated Romero.
The second half started with an early lead for Cerro Porteño thanks to another goal by Romero. Espínola, with a header that diverted a collection of a still ball towards the Argentine net, closed the scoreboard.
In the end, the Cyclone managed to impose its rhythm, while the visitors lost their way to the opposite area.
Group G also includes Olimpia from Paraguay and Peñarol from Uruguay.
