A draft declaration that requests the Executive of Mendoza to evaluate change the time zone in the province received this Tuesday a favorable report from the Legislation and Constitutional Affairs Commission of the Legislature local, reported parliamentary sources.

In addition, during the meeting this Tuesday, the initiative that seeks to ask the local government that clocks be set back one hour throughout the province during the fall and winter received the endorsement of referents from the electrical sector and psychology.

The aforementioned commission, chaired by the provincial deputy Jorge Difonso (UP-FR), promoter of the project, received a visit from the director of the Psychology Program at Universidad de Congreso, Marcos Jofreand the president of the Federation of Electric Cooperatives, Jose Alvarezwho expressed their endorsement of the project by which the Provincial Executive Power would be pleased to evaluate the application of Law 7955/08 by changing Mendoza’s time zone.

The text agreed upon in the office also states -in addition- that the National Congress would also be pleased to give prompt treatment to the bill (presented by the national deputy Julio Cobos) of the Time Zone -4 for the Argentine Republic.

The draft declarations do not require measures to be taken and are intended to express an opinion of the body and, in this sense, sources from the Mendoza government indicated a few days ago that setting the clocks back one hour in Mendoza is not currently among the management priorities.

“In reality, we have echoed a proposal made by our scientific and academic sector” Difonso highlighted, in dialogue with the press, adding that the country is on “the threshold of a major energy crisis” as a result of the geopolitical situation due to the war between Russia and Ukraine.

According to the foundation, “one of the main economic, social and environmental problems in our country is the use and availability of energy.”

“Our province is not the exception in this problem, so through this project we propose to start drawing up an Energy Efficiency Program in order to guarantee the rational and efficient use of energy,” he added.

What is being pursued is to save energy and make better use of sunlight, in addition to addressing “security issues that increase at night,” said Difonso, who added that this change also has a positive advantage at the environmental level. .

Another aspect is the biorhythm, and Difonso stressed that “it would be important to consider the time zone by virtue of which the human body works more efficiently during daylight hours.”
