Minister Marcel summons Daniel Jadue for criticizing the Government's alternative project: "We are trying to carry out a responsible economic policy"

The Minister of Finance, Mario Marcelsummoned the mayor of Recoleta, Daniel Jaduefor his criticism of the alternative project that the Government sent to Congress, which aims to prevent the approval of the initiative for the fifth withdrawal of the AFPs.

The communal authority said through Twitter that the “withdrawal project for specific purposes seems more like a bailout for the financial sector than for citizen needs,” adding that “price increases are not necessarily a consequence of the withdrawals, but pure speculation. You have to listen to the people!”

Given this, the Secretary of State indicated that “any person or family that has accumulated debts, and has the possibility of resorting to their pension savings to be able to get rid of that backpack, will hardly see it as a bailout for the industry, which It is going to be seen as a mechanism that allows to lighten that load that it carries. If one thought that paying a debt meant benefiting the creditor, well, practically none of us would pay anything.”

“So it seems to me that it’s cutting too fine a thread about something that is a problem that exists in many families and that generated part of the discomfort that we saw during the social outbreak. That is why I think there is no doubt that the one who benefits from this is the families, who are going to be able to lighten the burden they have,” he added.

It should be noted that Minister Marcel was present at the Constitution Commission of the Chamber of Deputies and Deputies to defend the Executive’s project, as well as argue against the fifth withdrawal initiative.

“What happens with the fifth withdrawal is that it has the potential to affect the economy and public finances in a way that compromises the ability to comply with the government program. It is much more difficult to make important reforms in a country if there is a situation inflation, a financial crisis or if the treasury has a significant imbalance. Therefore, we are trying to carry out a responsible economic policy,” he said.

Along these lines, he added that “I don’t feel like I’m on the same page with anyone, for me the important thing is to legislate well, in a way that benefits people and does not harm them, and the project that we are discussing now is a project that It allows us to take care of some of the problems that many people have, without generating the inflationary pressures that withdrawals would have.

The Government’s proposal was finally approved almost in its entirety by the Chamber’s Labor Committee, while the fifth withdrawal was rejected by the Constitution Committee.
