In commemoration of the four years of the civic rebellion that began in 2018, opponents of the regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo performed the new song “Actívate”, with the motto: “Let’s keep the April flame alive”, where the call is made to people of Nicaragua not to cease their demand for freedom.
Various civil society and opposition organizations in Nicaragua made a video with the aim, as they say, of “injecting energy into the Nicaraguan citizenry, the diaspora and our brothers in exile, especially the youth with a moralizing message and hope”.

“With this video we call on all Nicaraguans in all parts of the world to activate themselves in any way, mainly on social networks, according to each one’s security possibilities. It is a call to action to raise our voice against the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo,” the campaign organizers said in a statement.
The video was produced in Costa Rica, a country that has received thousands of Nicaraguans who have sought political asylum, after the Ortega regime unleashed persecution solely for being opponents.
The lyrics and recording of the music were in charge of Nicaraguan artists who for security reasons keep their identity so as not to be victims of siege or jail by the Ortega government.

“In citizen resistance together, let us demand the release of all political prisoners. Justice for the murdered; democracy for Nicaragua and unrestricted respect for human rights,” reads the statement.
“We have to leave the defeatist narrative”
For her part, Olama Hurtado, communication coordinator of the Blue and White National Unit (UNAB) told Article 66 that this new protest against the Ortega dictatorship demonstrates the “new rebirth of Nicaragua.”
“Right now it is a matter of leaving that defeatist narrative and starting to see the Nicaragua that we want. With this video, a call is being made to have energy and hope, to resist and organize ourselves to continue demanding justice.”
Despite the wave of repression that Nicaragua has been experiencing since 2018, the opposition affirms that they will continue to demand that their rights to mobilization and freedom of expression be respected.
