MIAMI, United States.- The Cuban Association for Press Freedom (APLP) denounced that six new attacks against journalists occurred on the island last March, a common practice of the regime to try to silence those who report the reality of the country. .

The new cases of aggression, such as that of CubaNet columnist Anay Remón, join that of Camila Acosta, also a journalist for our media outlet, in house arrest since July 17, 2021.

These are the cases of March 2022:

Iliana Hernandez, Havana/CyberCuba. On March 5, the political police summoned the journalist’s mother, Mariceli Cardoso Elías, to the Cojimar delegation. Hernández was not in Cuba, she had traveled to Spain days before.

Dagoberto Valdes, Pinar del Río/Coexistence Study Center. On the 9th, the journalist and his son were summoned for questioning by the Political Police. “Today, March 9, 2022, Captain Otoniel (Political Police) summoned my son, Javier Valdés Delgado, to the Pinar del Río Immigration Office. He was interviewed for an hour,” said Valdés, who added that he then met with him for approximately 90 minutes to talk “about our trip (February) to Miami for the Catholic Social Week, the VII Meeting of Coexistence and my daughter’s wedding. . In this way, the harassment of the Coexistence Study Center continues.”

light escobar, Havana/14ymedio. On the 11th and 25th, the journalist was prevented from leaving her home. “A State Security agent prevents me from leaving my house. He doesn’t know how to tell me the reasons; and of course, he does not show any documents, ”she said on the first occasion.

Anay Remon, Havana/CubaNet. On the 23rd, an agent of the Political Police appeared at her mother’s house to threaten the woman and to persuade her to influence Remón to abandon the independent press:

“The agent, who seemed to my mother too young for such an ignoble task, spoke of alleged associations and orders from abroad. At some point he let her know that new laws are coming. He assured my mother that if I continue writing they will penalize me, that it is time to stop. I believe her when she utters her threats. And he must also believe me when I tell him that this is the time for anything but stopping,” said Anay.

Boris Gonzalez Arenas, Havana/Diario de Cuba. On the 25th, beginning in the morning, the journalist had police surveillance at his house. His wife presented in networks a photo of a patrol car parked on the ground floor of the building where they reside. The surveillance lasted for several hours.

Lázaro Yuri Valle Roca, Havana/Freelancer. On the 29th, the Prosecutor’s Office requested for Valle Roca, in prison since June 15, 2021, six years in prison for the alleged crimes of “disrespect” and “enemy propaganda.” Valle Roca, according to his wife, is facing serious health problems in the Havana provincial prison, Combinado del Este.
