Indotel delivers mobile phones to 2,000 women

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (Indotel) and the “Get over” program began the project of the “Digital Social Basket”, an initiative that contemplates impacting 2,000 women heads of household in San Juan de la Maguana who will benefit from access to telecommunications services for a period of 24 months, through a partial subsidy and a smart cell phone and will receive training for the Good use of digital tools.

The President of the Board of Directors of the indotelNelson Arroyo, reported that the basket aims to contribute to the human development and family well-being of the beneficiaries, through the use of the Internet and technology.

Arroyo indicated that the 2,000 beneficiaries will participate in a digital literacy program with a gender focus so that they can develop in the social and labor spheres through an adequate use of digital technologies.

He also explained that for the implementation of the basket, Indotel has as strategic partners the Supérate Program and Altice Dominicana, winner of the service contract.

He stated that the basket will be implemented in 16 municipalities of 11 provinces, namely: Juan Santiago, Neiba, Fundación, Vicente Noble, Pedernales, San Pedro de Macorís, Consuelo, Los Llanos, Quisqueya, Ramón Santana, Santa Cruz del Seibo, San Ignacio from Sabaneta, Mao, Monte Plata, Hato Mayor del Rey and San Juan de la Maguana.

He explained that the Digital Social Basket is a program sponsored by Indotel through the Telecommunications Development Fund (FDT) directed by Amparo Arango.

Through this program, Altice Dominicana, the successful bidder, will provide each of the beneficiaries with a postpaid plan with a 20 GB mobile internet service and 100 minutes of voice.

Also a smartphone with a 6.5” screen, 3GB RAM, 64GB of internal storage, HD 720p resolution, 13 MP camera, Android operating system, A/C charger and headphones.

The Service Plan has a cost of RD$1,061.12 of which the beneficiaries will pay RD$200 per month and the Indotel RD$861.12.00.

Arroyo expressed his confidence that the company Altice will continue to offer the greatest collaboration so that the beneficiaries receive a quality service.

He emphasized that due to the portability and general characteristics of the cell phone, the beneficiaries will be connected to the Internet 24/7 since they can take it to any place they go.

Entrepreneurial women can use it to promote their products and services, to supervise their household chores, make videos, take pictures, participate in social networks, listen to music and news, talk for free with their families and related people on WhatsApp, Instagram, etc. among other uses.

Likewise, with respect to the Digital Literacy Program with a Gender Approach, Arroyo stated that its objective is to promote the social appropriation of digital technologies in the beneficiaries so that they expand their opportunities to enter the social and labor field and to achieve their human development.

The awardee institution for the implementation of the program is the Women’s Action Center (CIPAF).
