According to the entity, 35% of these benefits will be directed to institutions in the North, Northeast and Midwest. The annual total to be invested will be R$ 70.2 million.

“This total is added to the more than 84 thousand benefits already granted by the Foundation’s institutional programs”, informs Capes, referring to the new vacancies foreseen by the Foundation. Ordinance No. 73published in Official Diary of the Union today (6).

The ordinance also contains some of the criteria to be adopted for the allocation of scholarships and school grants. Among them are courses offered in municipalities with the lowest Municipal Human Development Index (IDHM); and the strategic themes that were defined by the pro-rector or by an equivalent body.

“The Dean’s Office, or equivalent body in the institution, will need to define and make public strategic themes where these benefits will be applied, in addition to attending courses offered in cities with lower IDHM. Other criteria may be applied as long as those required by Capes are prioritized”, the entity explained in a note.

According to Capes, the other criteria for granting scholarships will be more detailed in a specific ordinance. These specifications, adds the entity, will take into account the number of scholarships that the institution already receives for institutional programs. In 2022, the coordination allocated 84,336 scholarships to Brazilian graduate programs.
