As part of the commemoration of the World Autism Awareness Day and the fourth anniversary of the promulgation of the Law on Labor Inclusion, the Regional Presidential Delegate, Daniela Dresdnerparticipated in the presentation of the project “Guide for the inclusion of the person with the condition of the autistic spectrum, designed in easy reading” launched by the Andrés Bello University (UNAB), created by the Chile Autism Support Foundation and financed by SENADIS.
The guide seeks to promote a context of greater social inclusion, self-determination and rights of people with Autism. In it, a series of recommendations were elaborated for this objective, by means of a questionnaire administered to 100 families, the work of a group of validators of the Chile Autism Support Foundation and professionals from different competent areas.
Regarding the activity that took place at Universidad Andrés Bello, as it is the institution of higher education with the largest number of graduates with disabilities in the region, the Regional Presidential Delegate, Daniela Dresdner, stated: “This is something that has made progress, but obviously much remains to be done in everything that has to do with people on the autism spectrum, and also in what is related to the inclusion law, which is a priority for the President’s government. Gabriel Boric. Something to which we will always put a lot of attention and effort, and in which we want to make rapid progress”
For its part, the SEREMI of Labor, emphasized the importance of increasing employment options for people with disabilities, highlighting the company that was recognized in this instance, Salazar Israelwho are the ones who have hired the largest number of UNAB graduates with disabilities.
The representative of the Ministry of Labor in the region, Sandra Quintanasaid: “There are two important milestones that we commemorate today, first, the international day of the autistic spectrum, of young people, adolescents, children and adults who have a disability, and who today have greater visibility and awareness of the issue; and second, labor inclusion, in which we have already spent four years with Law 20,015, from which we all hope that companies, the public service and any place that grants employment, can include people with disabilities”.
Regarding UNAB, its Director of the Diploma in Labor Skills, Maria Florence Iriarte added: “We are proud and happy to be able to celebrate today at our university, the commemoration of the awareness of people with autism, adding to this the fourth year of validity of the labor inclusion law. We have worked collaboratively with SENADIS for years, therefore, this is part of our annual agenda, and today we were able to hear the testimony of employers, people with autism spectrum conditions, our authorities and the commitment also of the public sector”.
