Through a community forum, the Citizen Forum for Electoral Reforms showed its rejection of the electoral criminal jurisdiction and reiterated its call to eliminate the electoral criminal jurisdiction, assuring that it only serves as a shield for candidates and elected officials who seek to evade justice.
According to the Forum for Electoral Reforms, the Electoral Tribunal has had a foolish and contradictory position on the issue and they point out that they have interfered in “issues that are not within their competence and that completely distort the original meaning of this jurisdiction, what it has had and it will have serious consequences for electoral political institutions.”
In their note, they urged the rulers to appoint Magistrates of the Electoral Court with a State criterion and not a political criterion “to ensure both their real independence from the great economic and political powers, as well as their defense of the interests of the population”.
