National oil production fell 3.8% in February

National oil production in February decreased by 3.8% compared to January and increased by 3.5% compared to February 2021. In natural gas, the reduction was 3.1% compared to the previous month and increased 1 .6% compared to the same month last year. In total, 3.754 million barrels of oil equivalent per day were produced, 2.917 million barrels of oil per day and 133 million cubic meters per day of natural gas.National oil production fell 3.8% in February

The data are contained in the Monthly Bulletin of Oil and Natural Gas Production, released today (30) by the National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP).

According to the ANP, the main reasons for the drop in production compared to the previous month were the maintenance stoppages of platforms P-70 (Atapu and Oeste de Atapu fields, in the Santos Basin), P-51 and P-56 (Marlim Sul field, in the Campos Basin) and the Cidade de Anchieta Floating Production, Storage and Offloading Unit (FPSO) (Baleia Azul field, in the Campos Basin).

Pre-salt

Production in the pre-salt, in February, fell 2.4% compared to the previous month and rose 9.4% compared to February 2021. Production originated in 127 wells and recorded a volume of 2.841 million barrels of oil equivalent per day, being 2.235 million barrels of oil and 96.4 million of natural gas, which corresponded to 75.7% of national production.

The bulletin reveals that the use of natural gas in February was around 97.7%. 49.9 million cubic meters were made available to the market. Gas flaring in the month totaled 3 million cubic meters per day, showing a reduction of 6% compared to the previous month and 12.6% compared to the same month in 2021.

Areas

In February, 267 areas granted, five areas of transfer of rights and six areas of sharing, operated by 41 companies, were responsible for national production. Of these areas, 62 are offshore and 216 are onshore, 11 of which are related to contracts for areas containing marginal accumulations. Production took place in 6,149 wells, 468 of which offshore and 5,681 onshore.

The average API grade (arbitrary scale that measures the density of liquids derived from petroleum) of oil extracted in Brazil was 28.2, with 2.4% of production considered light oil, 92.6% medium oil and 5% heavy oil .

The bulletin shows that the mature onshore basins (long-term fields/tests in the Espírito Santo, Potiguar, Recôncavo, Sergipe and Alagoas basins) produced 92,834 Mboe/d, of which 72,056 Mbbl/d of oil and 3,303 MMm³/d of natural gas . Of this total, 50.1 thousand boe/d were produced by Petrobras and 42.7 thousand boe/d by concessions operated by other companies.
