Race-walk in Cuba will celebrate the anniversaries of the UJC and the OPJM

With a race-walk, the sports-recreational festival called Let’s Go with Everything will begin in Cuba, in salute to the 60th and 61st anniversaries of the Union of Young Communists (UJC) and the José Martí Pioneer Organization (OPJM), respectively, created on April 4.

This activity organized by the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (Inder), will be held next Saturday, April 2, with Havana as the headquarters.

This was stated to the Cuban News Agency by Carlos Gattorno, head of the Marabana-Maracuba National Commission for Races and Walks (CNCC), who pointed out that there will be no limits on registrations, so it will be a free and participatory event.

He added that the race-walk will be throughout the country, although the activities will take place in this capital, starting at nine in the morning at the Fountain of Youth, near the Riviera hotel, and finishing in the park on March 13 , in front of the Museum of the Revolution, he explained.

He also said that the population in general will be able to participate, but the greatest role will be that of young people and students from different educational centers, including military and university schools.

He also expressed that the route will have about four kilometers with a detour through Zulueta street to enter the finish line.

The director of the newly created CNCC Marabana-Maracuba recommended that runners and walkers maintain the measures against COVID-19, keeping the distances in the race and using the mask at the starting line and after completing the journey.

Related to other recreational options, skaters will depart from the park itself on March 13 towards La Piragua, where there will be car, karting and motorcycle activities.

Inder’s gift to the UJC and the OPJM will be developed in six areas: La Piragua, La Punta, the Antonio Maceo and 13 de Marzo parks, Malecón Avenue and the marine strip that runs from La Punta to La Piragua.

In this maritime area there will be regattas of the Ernest Hemingway International Nautical Club, sailboat rides, kite surfing and exhibitions by exponents of the Marlin Navy, whaling ships from the Naval Academy, the Revolutionary Armed Forces and open water swimmers.

Aerobic gymnastics, sanabanda, traditional games, martial arts, kite flying, model airplanes, indoor soccer, table tennis, simultaneous chess and basketball matches between universities can be enjoyed in the other areas mentioned.

Likewise, the attendees will enjoy exhibitions of rugby football, cricket, ball in hand, boxing poster and even a restorative massage.

For the race-walk, a number has been created that those interested can find and fill out in the @andarinescubanos Facebook group, where they can record the enjoyment of the party for the 60th and 61st anniversaries of the UJC and the OPJM.
