Francisco Dominguez Britopresidential candidate for the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), expressed that national producers, the middle class and the most vulnerable families need a law to support national production in the face of rising prices, this statement was offered during a a great act of support for their aspirations carried out by Rosa Peña de Lluberes, Mayor of Yaguate, where Ángela Dipré, Mayor of Palenque and Luis Pavolo, Mayor of Villa Altagracia were also present.
“The PLD has always protected and assumed the defense of national producers, the battered middle class and the most vulnerable families, especially in difficult times such as the 2008 financial crisis and the 2013 raw materials crisis combined with a large drought in the Dominican Republic. This is why the PLD has stated its position of not accepting this project to eliminate tariffs and any other measure that causes more unemployment and more anguish for Dominican families. The measure proposed by the government would bankrupt thousands of national producers,” said Francisco.
The government must invest in supporting agricultural production. In the Dominican Republic, 90% of agricultural production comes from small and medium producers and, in addition, its strengthening increases income, reduces poverty and improves the distribution of wealth.
As complementary measures to improve the agricultural sector Francisco proposes the government must freeze the pre-pandemic FOB tax. Support producers to sell directly to consumers by providing transportation and spaces in the markets without charging for their use. Sufficient credit at reasonable interest. Promote incentives to improve productivity levels and ensure producers the marketing of their products through government institutions, school feeding program, hospitals, military and police barracks, as well as increase purchases for distribution through the Social Plan.
