The municipality of Carapebus, in the north of the state of Rio de Janeiro, chooses today (7) a new mayor and deputy mayor. About 12,600 voters are eligible to vote, according to the state’s Regional Electoral Court (TRE-RJ).
Three candidates are vying for the position: Bernard Tavares Didimo (Republicans), Leandro Drummond Esteves, Dandinho (Avante) and Edward Ferreira de Araújo Filho (PMB).
The by-election was defined by the Electoral Court after Mayor Christiane Miranda Cordeiro (PP) was removed from office. She had her candidacy rejected due to the rejection of her accounts by the City Council in 2017.
Polling stations will open at 7am and close at 5pm. To avoid covid-19 contamination, there will be no biometric identification. The presentation of the identification document to the polling station will be done remotely and the use of a mask will be mandatory at the polling stations.
