Veteran central defender Thiago Silva, a player for the Brazilian national team and English Chelsea, left his mark this Friday on the ‘Walk of Fame’ at the Maracana stadium, a milestone with which figures like Pelé, Garrincha , Zico, Romario and Ronaldo.
One day after being a starter in the match in which Brazil thrashed Chile 4-0 for the Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifiers, Thiago Silva returned to the legendary stadium in Rio de Janeiro to have the mold of his footprint taken, which now it will be immortalized on one of the plaques on the Maracanã Walk of Fame.
The act served as a tribute to a 37-year-old soccer player who is getting ready to play in his fourth World Cup, since he attended South Africa 2010, Brazil 2014 and Russia 2018 and is the clear favorite to be included in the squad for Qatar 2022.
With Thursday’s match, the Chelsea defender completed 105 commitments wearing the shirt of the Brazilian national team, equaling Emerson Leao and Ronaldo, and entered the list of the ten footballers who have defended Brazil the most times.
As a player of the Brazilian team, of which he has been captain on several occasions, such as in last night’s match, Thiago Silva has the title of the 2013 Confederations Cup and the 2019 Copa América.
But the defender collects dozens of titles for the clubs he has passed through, such as Italian Milan, French Paris Saint-Germain and English Chelsea, including those of the 2020/2021 European Champions Cup and the 2021 Club World Cup .
But it was also a tribute to a player who began professionally at Fluminense in Rio de Janeiro, where he was known precisely as “the monster of the Maracana”.
Now, with his footprint eternalized on the Walk of Fame, Thiago Silva joins Brazilian stars who also have their mark on the stadium, such as Pelé, Garrincha, Zico, Marta, Ronaldinho Gaúcho, Ronaldo, Romario or Rivellino.
