In the confrontation between two of the main powers of Brazilian futsal, Magnus, current champion of the National Futsal League (LNF) went to Santa Catarina and beat Joinville by 3-2, at the Cau Hansen gymnasium, opening up an advantage in the quarterfinals of the season 2021. Cigar scored twice for the sorocabana team, which also had goalkeeper Lucas Oliveira as top scorer (Dieguinho scored both goals for the hosts), in a match broadcast by TV Brasil. The second and decisive duel will be next Saturday (13), in Sorocaba, at 1:30 pm.
Before the ball rolled, expectations were high for the game that brought together Magnus, champion in 2014 and 2019 (last edition held) and Joinville, who lifted the cup in 2017. The two teams are also a constant presence in the decisive phases, with at least one of them playing in the semifinals in all of the last five seasons. However, this time, only one will reach this stage.
Magnus has asserted itself from the start. With less than three minutes of play, Cigar advanced down the right side of the court and kicked as goalkeeper William left to open the scoring for the visitors.
At the end of the first stage, Dieguinho equalized with a free kick.
The second half started just like the first. Cigar goal for Magnus in the first moments. This time, he hit a beautiful volley.
The game caught fire at the end. With just over three minutes left, goalkeeper Lucas Oliveira took advantage of the fact that the opponent was without anyone in the goal and, after neutralizing an attack by Joinville, played by cover from inside his own area to expand.
The match seemed set, but 1:30 before the final whistle, the referee scored another free kick for the hosts, who scored again with Dieguinho.
Joinville spent the last seconds occupying Magnus’ backcourt, but couldn’t equalize. Now, the team has a thankless mission: to defeat the opponent in Arena Sorocaba, where the defending champion has not lost in LNF 2021.
