Unachi teacher denounces that the administration of the rector Etelvina de Bonagas owes them 25% of their salaries

He mentioned that, since 2018, the rector Etelvina de Bonagas has a resolution where she can make use of the budget without prior consultation with the Administrative Council.

Professor Edith Rivera, who works at the Autonomous University of Chiriquí (Unachi), revealed on Radio Panama a series of complaints due to the multiple irregularities that arise in said study house.

In the case of full professors, he stated that they have the right to earn the same salary as professors at the University of Panama. “The rector, by implementing that salary equality, equalized her salary in 2019, which was a scandal in the middle of the pandemic, and ours, we were left with 25% debt. Unachi special teachers are only paid 12 hours when they should be paid 18 hours. At the University of Panama, a special professor earns a thousand and the rest of dollars and at Unachi they only earn $860”, she denounced.

He mentioned that, since 2018, the rector Etelvina de Bonagas has a resolution where she can make use of the budget without prior consultation with the Administrative Council.

“We do not doubt that he is a correct and honest person, but public servants have to do what the law tells them to do,” Rivera said, adding that this situation has them in a state of uncertainty due to this way of “imposing reelection and that the university family was not consulted”.
