With a generation capacity of 670 MW and at a cost of one billion dollars, Panama began construction of the “Generadora Gatún” natural gas plant on Tuesday
The work will be connected to the transmission network through a new line, between the Sabanitas and Panama III substations.4
This plant, located in the province of Colón, is part of the Grupo Energético Gas Panamá (GEGP), owned by InterEnergy Group and AES Panamá, and will have two gas turbines and one steam turbine.

With the plant, the installed energy capacity will be expanded, which will favor the need for cleaner energy and better prices, helping energy growth in the short and medium term.
He assured that with this plant the national electricity rate can be stabilized, which will lead to a significant reduction in energy in the future.
According to Mónica Lupiañez, Country Manager of InterEnergy Group, this work will allow greater market competitiveness in the coming years. The gas supply will be made through a gas pipeline connected to the terminal currently operating in Colón. She highlighted that her work is estimated to be completed by the first half of 2024.
