Milan and Napoli keep up the pace in Italy; Inter stumbles

AC Milan did not fail in their visit to Cagliari (1-0) and remains the sole leader, after the victory of Napoli (2nd) at home against Udinese (2-1) and the 1-1 draw of Inter (3rd) against Fiorentina, in the fight for the ‘Scudetto’ during the 30th round of the Italian championship.

Milan (1st) visited Cagliari (17th) already knowing the results of his two rivals, and with the obligation to win to distance himself from Napoli, who had provisionally caught up with him in the table.

The leader of Serie A wasted up to three occasions during the first quarter of an hour of the game, with a mistake by Olivier Giroud, a shot by Franck Kessié at the post and a deflected shot by Brahim Díaz.

He did not forgive the author of the winning goal, Algerian midfielder Ismael Bennacerwho, thanks to a volley, put the final 1-0 on the scoreboard in the 59th minute. Milan defended this advantage until the end, despite some scares.

Their pursuer, Napoli, arrived at the break of their match against Udinese (14th) behind on the scoreboard (0-1), and with murmurs circulating around the Diego Maradona stadium, but the Nigerian attacker Víctor Osimhen cleared the doubts of his public, with a headed goal (minute 52, 1-1) and later with a cross shot (minute 63, 2-1).

With this new brace, a week after the one he also decisively achieved in Verona against Hellas (2-1), Osimhen returns the hopes of the ‘Scudetto’ to Napoli.

Before waking up, andl Napoli suffered against a Udinese daring, who opened the scoring with a low shot to the post by Spaniard Gerard Deulofeu (minute 22, 0-1). Napoli’s Colombian goalkeeper, David Ospina, avoided the 2-0 draw after a header from Spanish defender Pablo Marí (31).

Marco Silvestri, Udinense goalkeeper, also had a job with a shot from Insigne (32) and a deflected shot from Fabián Ruiz (40). He could not do anything against Osimhen and a more offensive Napoli, after Belgian Dries Mertens entered the field after the break.

Napoli managed the advantage well on the scoreboard until the end of the game, helped by the expulsion of Pablo Marí (82).

For its part, Inter (3rd) could not pass the draw (1-1) at San Siro against Fiorentina (8th), and continues to drop points in the fight for the championship, with just one win in the last seven games.

The visitors took the lead thanks to a goal by Uruguayan Lucas Torreira at the start of the second half (minute 50, 0-1). Inter managed to tie the game quickly with a goal from the Dutchman Denzel Dumfries (55, 1-1)but was unable to achieve a victory that would have re-engaged him in the fight for the title.

After this result, Simone Inzaghi’s men they maintain the third position with 60 unitssix from AC Milan (1st) and three from Napoli (2nd)

The result is not positive either for the ‘Fiore’ (8th)who came to this match in need of the three points to fight for European positions.
